Critically Important Function | Key Leadership Position

Our client, the Department for Health and Wellbeing supports the delivery of public health services, formulates health policy, facilitates public and consumer consultation on health issues and monitors the performance of South Australia’s health system.  At an exciting time for the South Australian Public Health system, an opportunity has arisen to join the organisation and lead the Disaster Management Branch within the Department. This Branch provides strategic leadership and systems that support the health system to prepare for, respond to and recover from major incidents, emergencies, disasters and disruptions that may occur in South Australia as well as nationally and internationally. This includes participating in emergency responses and supporting the health system through education, training, and exercise programs.

Reporting to the Executive Director Public Health Planning and Response, the Director Disaster Management Branch will oversee the strategic leadership, governance and direction of SA Health’s disaster management programs.  You will lead developing strategic and operational disaster management policies, plans and protocols and participate in their implementation and use across the Health system.

You will build strong relationships and work collaboratively with a variety of vital experts, executives and key internal and external stakeholders to establish strategies and processes which allow for the identification, prioritisation and continuity of critical services and functions across the health system.  Representing SA Health at a national, state and local scale on Health, Disaster Management and Business Continuity committees, you will be tasked with ensuring South Australia contributes to, and complies with, national and state health emergency management legislation, plans and arrangements.

We are seeking a strategic, practical and contemporary leader, with a proven ability to lead and manage major health or disaster related programs, matched with a comprehensive knowledge of the principles and practices surrounding disaster management and business continuity.  Tertiary qualifications in health, disaster management, business continuity planning, business or public administration are desirable, however we encourage you to confidentially enquire about this role if you feel that your background, skills and education could be of interest to our client.
